   US historian and writer whose sf novel, The City of theSun (1924), is a LOST WORLD tale set in the 19th centuryAmerican West, where a beautiful Spanish maiden must be rescued from ritual death, in the mawof a great snake; and the eponymous ancient Aztec city must,as usual in novels of this sort, bedestroyed.
