   UK writer on rural themes whose post- HOLOCAUST novel, The Collapse of Homo Sapiens (1923), written in the apocalypse-obsessed aftermath of WWI, identifies the fall of mankind with the defeat of the UK by an alliance of coloured powers, which themselves soon disintegrate, leaving the world to shrink and degenerate. The traveller who is moved through time to witness this disaster puts much of the blame for the UK's unreadiness upon trade-union nihilists.
