MIXON, Laura J.
(1957-)
   US writer who began publishing sf with the first in the Omni Odysseyssequence for younger readers, Omni: Astropilots(1987; vt Astro Pilots 1987 UK); other titles were from other hands. Her first adultnovel, Glass Houses (1992), is a CYBERPUNK-influenced tale set in New York City, and told in a style one might describe asEast Coast noir. The female protagonist, grittilycharacterized, is tough, believable, humanly vulnerable. The plot, which involves at least one MCGUFFIN, brings in the usual cyberpunk suspects: corporations; henchmen; crazedentrepreneurs; VIRTUAL REALITY surfers. It is a remarkable debut, and points to muchmore.
