MacTYRE, Paul
   Pseudonym of Scottish writer R.J. Adam (1924-). His best-known novel is his first, Midge (1962; vt Doomsday, 1999 1963 US), a literate post- HOLOCAUST story in which a new form of life threatens to take over fromthe remnants of outmoded, destructive Man. Further novels are the John Buchanesque Fish on a Hook (1963) and Bar Sinister (1964), the bar of thetitle representing a borderline-sf COMMUNICATIONS technology.
