DIXIE, Lady Florence (Caroline)

DIXIE, Lady Florence (Caroline)
(1855-1905)
UK traveller and writer whose nonfiction Across Patagonia (1880) captures something of her FEMINIST urgency. In Gloriana, or The Revolution of 1900 (1890) a woman disguised as a man is elected Prime Minister of the UK and, though unmasked, establishes full equality between the sexes; by 1999, a woman-ruled UK beneficently dominates its Federated Empire. Isola, or The Disinherited: A Revolt for Women and All the Disinherited (1903), a play, depicts the coming to UTOPIAN plenitude of the society of Saxcoberland on the planet Erth, which is similar but not identical to Earth.
