SPACEWAYS

SPACEWAYS
Film (1953). Hammer/Exclusive. Dir Terence Fisher, starring Howard Duff, Eva Bartok, Alan Wheatley, Andrew Osborn. Screenplay Paul TABORI, Richard Landau, based on a 1952 radio play by Charles Eric MAINE. 76 mins. B/w.
In this first UK space movie since THINGS TO COME (1936) a scientist falsely suspected of murdering his wife and placing her body in a satellite takes a space trip to establish his innocence. This is an early, low-budget Hammer melodrama of indifferent quality. Maine's novel Spaceways: A Storyof the Very Near Future (1953; vt Spaceways Satellite 1958 US), also based on the radio play, appeared the same year as the film.
